Who we are, how we pick gear, and what our scores actually mean.
SportGear Finder exists to answer one question: "What should I actually buy at my budget?" Most gear roundups list 20+ products and leave you more confused than when you started. We do the opposite — exactly 6 picks per category, split into Budget, Best Value, and Premium tiers, so there's one clear answer at every price point.
Every pick starts with a shortlist built from three sources: specifications and real-world performance data from manufacturers and independent testing, aggregated feedback from thousands of verified buyer reviews across multiple retailers, and consensus from established player and coaching communities. We then filter for availability and price stability — a great racket that's perpetually out of stock doesn't help you.
We don't accept payment for placement. Brands cannot buy a spot on this site. If a product earns a slot, it's because it's the best answer at that price.
Each product's score is weighted across four factors:
9.0–10 — Best in class. Buy with confidence.
8.0–8.9 — Excellent. Minor trade-offs.
7.0–7.9 — Good. Does the job at its price, with limits.
Below 7 — We don't list it.
Scores are relative to the tier. A 7.5 budget racket isn't "worse made" than a 9.5 premium one in absolute terms — it means it delivers 7.5/10 of what a player at that level and budget needs.
As an Amazon Associate, SportGear Finder earns from qualifying purchases. When you buy through links on this site, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects which products we recommend — the picks are made first, the links come after.
Prices and product generations change fast. We re-check prices and refresh picks when new models replace the ones we recommend. Every category page shows its last-updated date. Spotted something out of date? We want to know.
